Dark Justice: Page 7 by Branded-Curse Dark Justice: Page 7 by Branded-Curse
Third page for this month's :icondeviantuniverse: Challenge
Two more to go, ten days to do it.

Insert Sick Puppies song here! After not getting along from the get-go, Centauri and Rufus Schwarkreuz finally come to blows and collide in an all-out battle for the first time.
( Yes, they've been fighting during the AFL 1000 intro, but back then Centauri tried to arrest Rufus and Rufus never really wanted to seriously hurt her )
His source of inner peace gone ( since Blaze left the DU ), Rufus can no longer take it and gives in to his anger, that has been building inside of him for quite some time.

Those of you who know how he ticks, notice he's not calling Centauri pet names. That's usually a sign that the shit has hit the fan.
Further more, Rufus exploding and openly yelling out what his problem is ... he's either sick or just snapped.
Which do you think is the case? :O

Next Page: Dark Justice: Page 8
Previous Page: Dark Justice: Page 6

Just for the record: I do not support, nor appreciate male on female violence! :police:
This is merely a comic book fight between two fictional characters.

As for the first panel, I'm content with how "Shadow Rufus" turned out.
See-through characters are very tough to do with the tools I use, which is why I never dared to show this ability of Rufus before. Until now!
Centauri is not supposed to fall for an obvious gray ghost, of course. Rufus is supposed to use an attack, similar to Scorpion's Shadow Punch from Mortal Kombat.
Hope that gets over?

Sort of an interesting point:  Much as she does like Centauri, Sam would probably agree with Rufus on this one.  She generally doesn't consider his crimes from the past to be anymore condemnable than hers.  The fact that most of hers were wiped out by the devastation of the Omega War, and never 'quite' proven is conveniently forgotten, but both she and Rufus are aware that there's a string of bodies that follow her early days.

So, she definitely isn't one to condemn him automatically even if she might get irritated at his tactics when they get in her way.

As you know, Rufus actually likes her, sees her as an ally, so he's not looking to ruin her relationship with Centauri or make her look bad.
However, he considers the system to be corrupt and doesn't trust "the law".
He has encountered too many people that pointed at him and looked the other way when it fit their agendas, so obviously he thinks that's what Centauri is doing, too.

Yep, they definitely agree on the corruption of the system.  She simply benefited from it back then.

And honestly, Centauri is a LOT more black/white in morality than Sam is.  It's a point of contention between them to this day.

I am curious though what Sam will do in the aftermath of this story :O
After all, Rufus just stabbed her girlfriend. That's worse than just having tension between the two.

If Centauri survives (which is my assumption) Sam is probably not going to actively seek him out.  She might threaten to do so while in Centauri's hearing, but she'd do so knowing that Centauri wouldn't countenance it.  After she's calmed, she would probably plot about it for a while.

Odds are good she won't actively try to harm Rufus, but 'tense' is a bit of an understatement there.  Sam reacts poorly to people touching what she considers hers.

Great page. I love the illusion effect in the first panel. I figure Centauri has the edge over Rufus in terms of power, but Rufus has snapped and is taking this all very personally, and the ferocity of this attack has taken her by surprise. Interesting that Rufus uses his knowledge of Centauri's relationship with Sam here and sees it as hypocracy - it isn't really of course - he's still a criminal so he deserves to be held to account for his crimes - but it does make me wonder how much Centauri (and Thunder Force) really know about Sam...

Thanks, you have no idea how much that means to me :happycry:
See, I had this ability of his in mind ever since I introduced him on :devart: back in 2009, but I never had enough faith in my abilities to draw him use it.
See-through characters are not easy to draw with my tools, if at all.

Centauri sure needs a briefing on what Rufus REALLY is about soon.
Perhaps she can sit down with Firebird? She's likely to give her an update after learning of this ... escalation :cough:

Rufus sure sees it as double standards, since Sam is no saint, yet he's falsely accused of everything but the Genocide Wave.
( Hmm ... sounds like a good line for him to use sometime :hmm: )

Yeah, but for all the 'wrongfully accused' stuff, he's also a character on the verge all the time isn't he - holding back his rage - always making the wrong decisions that will prevent him from making any meaningful contact again. He's a tragic and sympathetic character in some ways but not necessarily a particularly likeable one! (Especially after what he's just done to Centauri!)

Redemption is over-rated! He's too fun to kill off :)

Of course! :XD:

It will be tricky to keep him on that fine line, bordering to villainy but staying likeable.
Still, it's a challenge I'm willing to tackle.

You mean as in Peril? Not in this story

Unless I draw a Quadro Peril image, I only do peril stuff when it fits the story/situation.
You won't see it in all of my comics. Definitely not here.

So with Blaze gone, Rufus has become more of an anti-hero (I wonder how Vile would feel about this change :hmm:)

If the visitors from OTHERWORLD have shown us one thing, it's that Rufus and Vile wouldn't bring out the best in one another ;P

That's a possibility but somehow, I don't think Vile would see it that way ;)

He has to, she's way more powerful than he is ... but she's not completely invulnerable.
Techincally he could kill her, I think :O

Thanks, I considered it my duty to work on my action scene skills during this challenge.
Call it a matter of pride.
Drawing fight scenes that look intense and make the fight feel long in just a couple of panels.
That's what I wanna work on :-)
